"A collection of musical numbers
from new work yet to hit the West End have been well sung and strung
together by the talented voices of 'Perfect Pitch." Three Weeks Review - Edinburgh
We know, statistically, that ‘a musical’ is often
the very first introduction a young person has with the theatre.
The difficulty has always been retaining the younger audiences
for musicals as they become older with more choice of what to
do with their social time. Reality TV shows such as “How
Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria” and “Any Dream
Will Do” have succeeded in developing a new audience for
existing works, but it is essential that we continue to engage
the audience with new, contemporary works that bear current relevance
in order that this audience is not allowed to drift away, but
becomes aware of the new Lloyd-Webbers that the UK has to offer.
The current production shows that feature “West End – Broadway” hits
are incredibly popular up and down the country.
Perfect Pitch will use this concept as a device to target such
audiences with the new work.
To target as wide an audience as possible with the new work,
Perfect Pitch is planning two styles of concert. The first
will feature a select number of songs from the Perfect Pitch
Showcase and Network and perform them alongside established West
End and Broadway hits to encourage the audiences in. It will
be presented in venues nationwide and whilst giving the public
their favourite ‘standards’ it will also introduce
them to our new writers and new musicals and hopefully encourage
their support of new writing. Perfect Pitch is currently exploring
the possibilities of the already established production shows
of this kind including the new material as part of their programme.
In addition to this, the second concert will consist of new
British material only (from the shows included in the network
and showcase.) This concert will play to venues where the existing
audience is already one with a thirst for new writing. E.g. London
Fringe Venues, Studio Theatres and Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Perfect Pitch has showcased a diverse range of musical styles
from Brit-pop acoustic guitar to rock, and tackled issues relevant
to today’s society such as bullying, drugs and alcoholism
within its 22 shows so far. This clearly offers the capacity
to engage and develop new audiences whose perception of a musical
may be different to that which truly exists.
